People typically seek LASIK treatment to improve vision and reduce or eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses.
What are the common symptoms of LASIK Treatment?
After LASIK treatment, most patients experience a significant improvement in their vision, but like any surgical procedure, there are certain common symptoms or side effects that people may experience during the recovery process. These symptoms are typically temporary and should subside as the eyes heal.
Dry Eyes
Cause: LASIK temporarily disrupts the nerves in the cornea that help control tear production. Symptom: Dryness, itching, or a gritty feeling in the eyes. Treatment: Artificial tears or lubricating eye drops can help alleviate the discomfort. In some cases, your doctor may recommend punctal plugs to keep moisture in the eyes.
Blurry Vision
Cause: Blurry vision is common immediately after the procedure as the eyes adjust to the new corneal shape. Symptom: Some patients experience hazy, foggy, or blurred vision, especially in the first few hours or days after the procedure. Treatment: Vision will typically clear up within a few hours or a few days. If blurriness persists, follow-up with the surgeon is important.
Sensitivity to Light
Cause: After LASIK, the eyes may become more sensitive to bright lights due to temporary changes in the cornea and the healing process. Symptom: A strong sensitivity to light, particularly in bright environments or when outdoors. Treatment: Wearing sunglasses or avoiding bright light for a few days can help manage this symptom.
Redness in the Eyes
Cause: Small blood vessels in the eye may break during the procedure, leading to red eyes. Symptom: Red or bloodshot eyes, particularly in the first few days after the surgery. Treatment: This is usually harmless and resolves on its own within a week or two.
